I provide supportive, encouraging, project-specific, and detailed feedback (that does not come from a machine). I respect your voice, efforts, expertise, and experience, working with you to help develop and realize your writing goals. Descriptions of my editing services are outlined below.
Manuscript Review
A manuscript review provides a more general, although thorough, assessment of your drafted text as a whole, assessing it for format, style, structure, grammar, tone, consistency, and flow. A great feedback-focused step in the writing process, it can also identify 'holes' within your text and areas for further development aimed at strengthening your valuable writing efforts and credible voice.
Developmental Edit
A developmental edit helps to guide your future writing efforts and direct the continuing development of your writing project. This type of edit aims to strengthen the overall structure and organization of your work. It also provides detailed feedback on pacing, voice, tone, style, characters, storyline, theme, and/or idea development, all focused on supporting your writing success.
Substantive Edit
A substantive edit involves not only reading the lines of your writing, but between them too. It's the 'deep clean' of your text, helping to strengthen readability, eliminate inconsistencies, and ensure ideas are presented in a clear and engaging way. It fine-tunes sentence structure, transitions, and overall organization, and is anchored by your writing project goals while honouring your unique writing voice.
Copy Edit
A copy edit polishes your manuscript by catching and correcting errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and word usage while aiming to improve clarity and readability. It also takes into consideration consistency in style, tone, formatting, and referencing, helping to bring your writing closer to completion, and/or to being publication-ready.
Proofreading
Proofreading provides another set of eyes to check over your work before deciding it is 'done' and before your words might get sent to print, screen, or to a waiting reader.
Editing - Other
